Paul Kaye is Professor of Immunology at the University of York. He trained in zoology (BSc) and immunology (PhD) and has worked for almost 40 years on the immunopathology of the neglected tropical disease leishmaniasis. Paul was awarded FRCPath in 2004 and elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2015.  He is internationally recognized for his research on macrophages and dendritic cells, lymphoid tissue remodelling and granulomatous inflammation. He has extensive links with leishmaniasis-endemic countries, exploiting spatial omics approaches to understand disease pathogenesis in humans, natural reservoirs (dogs) and mouse models.  He led a recent Phase II therapeutic vaccine trial in Sudan and his group has established a controlled human infection model of sand fly transmitted cutaneous leishmaniasis at York. His current Wellcome Investigator Award focuses on defining mechanisms of within-host parasite dissemination that operate at different stages in the natural history of infection.
